Laboratory/Equipment

MTI is located in Ames, Iowa at the Iowa State University Research Park. The analytical laboratory is 2,500 square feet and contains all the equipment necessary to process and store specimens obtained.

Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry

MTI has equipment available to perform gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Agilent, 6890/5973, Palo Alto, CA) on various physiological specimens.

High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)

MTI has the ability to perform analyses using procedures designed for high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) through a fully automated analytical HPLC system, the Beckman System Gold (Fullerton, CA) equipped with a 126 solvent module and a166 UV detector, or through a Varian HPLC system equipped with PrepStar 218 pumps, Prostar 335 Photo Diode Array and a 701 ProStar fraction collector.

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay

The lab is equipped with a lab systems plate reader and well washer to perform enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for hormone analysis.

Additional equipment

The laboratory also contains support equipment including a Labconoco Freeze Dry System, Buchi Rotavap, Savant SpeedVac concentrator, two Labconoco safety hoods, Beckman J-6M centrifuge, VWR Advanced Homogenizing System and other necessary equipment (pH meters, ultra-pure water, balances, centrifuges, stir plates, etc.).
